Please tell us about your journey as an artist.
As I child I always enjoyed drawing and sketching and that played a major role in my decision to want to become an architect. Architecture has been a creative outlet but at times I have felt the need to express my creativity in other ways. Painting has been a part of my life, but only recently has it become an integral and essential part of it, on a daily basis. I truly love and appreciate the journey.
What is your medium and why did you choose it?
During my third year in architecture school, our design studio professor made us select a medium that was new to us and explore it in preparation for the final renderings. I had always had an appreciation of watercolour, so it was an easy decision. I felt an immediate connection to it, an appreciation for the process, its challenges and the patience required. Watercolour painting has since been a passion of mine but only recently has it become an integral, daily part of my creative life.
What was the inspiration behind this work?
It was during a trip home to Quebec City that I was mesmerized by the serenity and beauty of this scene. The sun was setting and the light shone its warm glow on this cold winter afternoon. I was in awe of the moment. Quebec is a place that is dear to my heart and inspires me like no others.
Who is your favorite artist? Why?
I would have to say Claude Monet is my favourite artist. His art truly moves me, the way it captures and express light and creates a mood, a feeling, a sense of place that are much bigger than the combination of brushstrokes on his canvases.
